}Penedès is the largest DO in Cataluña. Historically the area produced mostly brandy and fortified wines, then came the growth of Cava, which subsequently was granted its own DO. Torres led a revolution in the 70’s and 80s, planting ‘international’ varieties and making modern, clean table wines of high quality. In recent years, the region has been overshadowed by Priorat, but there are some excellent wines made here, often of great value.
