Weinert

Bernardo Weinert set up his eponymous winery fifty years ago in Luján de Cuyo, the home of Mendoza’s finest Malbec. Weinert was one of the pioneers of high-quality wine in Argentina and put it on the world map with the release of their 1977 Malbec in 1992. The estate is now run by his daughter, Iduna, and the wines, made by oenologist Hubert Weber for over a quarter of a century, are made in a very traditional style, with plenty of extraction followed by long ageing in ancient oak casks before further bottle ageing until release. They start to show their complexity and depth at around ten years old and continue to age seamlessly for decades. The antithesis of modern fruit bombs, these are powerful and contemplative wines full of mature flavours and precise tannins. This is a rare bodega in the modern world that sells its wine when it is fully mature.
