Ridgeview

Along with Nyetimber and Camel Valley, Ridgeview produce England’s finest sparkling wines and so by extension, some of the world’s best. Make no mistake, England may not produce great volumes yet, but in quality terms, nowhere outside of Champagne can equal the best of British. On more than one occasion I have embarrassed (or should that be impressed) leading Champenois, who mistook this fair product for top Grande Marque Champagne. Started in 1994 by Mike and Christine Roberts (who came to this challenge having made a small fortune in computing), they own 12 hectares of vineyards, but expansion plans are underway for the future. The Roberts’ children are now heavily involved in the business ensuring its succession.
