Pirie

Andrew Pirie, who obtained Australia’s first PhD in Viticulture, founded Pipers Brook vineyard in Tasmania in 1973 and was instrumental in the region’s development as a producer of fine wine. In 2002 he parted with Pipers Brook and founded Pirie Tasmania, focussing on aromatic whites, Sparkling wine and Pinot Noir. Tasmanian wine is very different to that from the rest of Australia, with lower alcohol levels, fresher acidity and great elegance the hallmarks. Andrew spent time learning his craft in both Burgundy and Alsace and it shows in his wines which have a texture and elegance rarely seen outside of the classic regions and certainly not at these prices!
