Les Vignerons Catalanes

The Roussillon is regularly, and lazily, lumped together with the Languedoc. They may be geographically adjoined and share many of the same varieties, but the soil and climate are very different. The land here is a geological mess of schist and limestone and although this is the sunniest place in France, it is cooled by winds from the neighbouring Pyrenées. The results are wines with a certain wild character, but also with great poise and a freshness often missing in the Languedoc. This is a very poor region with few individual Domaines. The Vignerons Catalanes is a grouping of cooperatives that offers impeccably made wines at every level and we have selected this cuvée to represent the local character in an easy and accessible form.
