Harrow & Hope

Henry and Kaye Laithwaite started this small winery on flint laden slopes above Marlow in 2010 after returning from Bordeaux where they had been making wine. There are 6.5 hectares planted with the classic champagne varietals and the first wines were released in 2016, immediately garnering praise and winning awards. No synthetic pesticides or herbicides are used, and compost is home made. Henry’s philosophy is to work with nature, not against it – something that takes real dedication in the damp English climate. A portion of the wines are aged in oak barrel and Henry has started putting aside reserve wines in a solera system, so that over time the NV will gain more complexity and a consistent style. Although a new kid on the block, the superb terroir and skill of Henry make this one to watch.
