Dominio del Plata

Susana Balbo was born into a wine family but had ambitions to become a nuclear physicist. However, 1970’s Argentina was a deeply conservative society and her parents refused to let her take up her place to study at university. Instead she turned to winemaking and in 1981, became the first Argentine woman to qualify as an oenologist. Since then she has earned a reputation as one of the finest winemakers in the world, starting at Michel Torino, then at Catena and since 1999 at Dominio del Plata, the bodega that she founded. Zohar is a more accessible range she produces, where the emphasis is on ease of enjoyment. This year we have also added a Fiano from Susana to our range, made from the first plantings of this grape in South America, which has great depth and freshness.
