Domaine des Baumard - Jeroboams

Domaine des Baumard

Jean Baumard founded this world class domaine in 1955, having studied enology in Dijon and Bordeaux. With 5 hectares in Quarts de Chaume and then 15 in Savennières, he became the first Anjou winemaker with land on both sides of the river! At the same time, for 15 years he was Professor of oenology at Angers University and also was active in wine politics. His son Florent joined him in 1987 and took over in 1990. The wines here are amongst the greatest expressions of Chenin Blanc and Loire terroirs one could hope to find. From the crisp and savoury Savennières to the unctuous Layon and Quarts de Chaume, these wines deserve a far wider audience.
