Chateau Montrose - Jeroboams

Chateau Montrose

The vineyard here was first planted in 1815, yet within 40 years it was 50 hectares in size and had shown enough brilliance to be classified as a second growth. In the Charmolüe family for 110 years, it was bought by the French construction magnates Martin & Olivier Bouygues in 2006. There are 90 hectares of vineyards close to the estuary with iron rich clay subsoil making this one of the most tannic wines of Bordeaux. Deep in colour and often austere in youth (though less so than in the past), with age Montrose is one of the best and longest lived wines of the region.
