Cellar Cal Pla

Established in 1996 by Joan Sangenis, the estate consists of 20 hectares of mostly ancient vines, planted with Garnacha, Cariñena and a small amount of Cabernet. Mas d’en Compte is his top range and of very limited production and is 50% Cariñena, 40% Garnacha and 10% Cabernet, aged in new oak for 14 months. This is, quite frankly, as good as it gets. (And if you are one of those people who would rather take Robert Parker’s word for it than mine, he rather likes it too and gave it 94 points).
