Casa Cadaval

Located 80km to the North of Lisbon next to the river Tejo, this estate has been in the Álvares Periera de Melo family for over 400 years. The 5,000 hectare property has been a cattle ranch and a famous stud farm since 1648. There are 50 hectares of vineyards, planted with Cabernet, Pinot Noir and half a dozen native red and white varieties. The pick of the wines is the Trincadeira, a variety which makes fragrant deep and rich wine with great capacity to age. The example here is barrel matured and has a good depth of fruit, pleasing spicy notes and a very refined texture.
