Mayacamus - Jeroboams

Mayacamus

Located high up on the ridge that separates Napa from Sonoma, Mayacamus was founded way back in 1889, dug into the side of an extinct volcano. There are 21 hectares of vineyards planted to Cabernet, Chardonnay, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. Having fallen into disuse during prohibition, it was re-planted in 1941 and passed to the hands of the current owners, Bob and Elinor Travers, in 1968, since when it has enjoyed a reputation as one of the superstars of the region. In 2013 the winery was purchased by the Banks and Schottenstein families (only the fourth owners in the 124 year history). Some of the chardonnay vineyards date back to the early 1950’s and the altitude here (540-750 m) gives wines of great intensity and freshness for Napa.
