Chateau Talbot - Jeroboams

Chateau Talbot

Purchased by the Cordier family in 1917, this 4th growth is now run by the fourth generation to be in charge. One of the largest Cru Classés, there are 107 hectares under vine, with 5 hectares of white varieties, still a fairly rare sight in the Médoc. The red from here has always enjoyed good sales in England and can occassionally excel, but is more generally solid and dependable rather than a star and it also remains one of the better value wines of St.-Julien. The second wine, Connetable, is generally reliable and inexpensive compared to its peers. The white is made in the manner of white Burgundy, but from 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon, all of which is barrel fermented and matured, with regular lees stirring. This is one of the finest white wines in Bordeaux and remains very good value considering the quality.
