Il Palazzone
Although Il Palazzone great estate in Montalcino is owned by Richard Parsons, an American businessman, it feels authentically Italian! There are three small vineyards dotted around Montalcino, amounting to under three hectares in total, all of which are farmed following organic practice. In 2000 the estate decided to stop producing the ‘lesser’ Rosso di Montalcino to concentrate solely on Brunello. However, in each vintage there are some lots that considered not good enough for, or do not qualify as, Brunello. These are used for a limited release multi-vintage blend, Il Palazzone, which has the character of Brunello, but in a less full bodied and powerful package.
