Domaine Etienne Sauzet
Founded in 1903, this domaine is one of the world’s greatest producers of white wines. Run by Gérard Boudot and his daughter Émilie (Etienne’s great-granddaughter) they have less than 9 hectares of vines, spread over 4 Grand Crus, 6 Premier Crus and Village appellations. Organic since 2006 and biodynamic since 2010, the use of new oak is quite restrained here and the wines have great intensity and purity and a lovely balance of weight and freshness. Etienne Sauzet inherited and bought several plots of vines in the village of Puligny-Montrachet. At the start of the 20th Century, and the vines passed through the family to Jeanine Boillot, Sauzet’s granddaughter. She and her husband, Gérard Boudot, managed the domaine for many years and cemented its reputation as one of the most sought-after addresses for fine white Burgundy. Today the domaine has passed to their daughter Emilie and her husband, Benoît Riffault, who continue to maintain and refine its position as one of the undisputed stars of Puligny-Montrachet.
