Bodegas Xenysel

Owned by the Martnez Verdu family for five generatons, the bodega owns 200 hectares of vineyards in the far north-east of Jumilla at around 800 metres altitude. The very dry sandy soil inhibits phylloxera, and allows the vines to grow on their own roots. An ultra-modern winery was built in 2006, after which Jose Maria started to make and bottle wines under their own label. There are now eight different interpretatons of Monastrell produced, along with a small amount of white wine based around Moscatel. The unusual name is an amalgamation of parts of his three daughter’s names Xenia, Nydia and Selene.
