Miraval
Miraval is a 500-hectare estate that sits in its own private valley in the north of the appellation at 250m altitude. The site was occupied by the Romans and was in its time a Monastery and home to members of the French Court. The current property is first mentioned in the 14th Century registry of noble houses. In the 1970’s, famous composer and pianist Jacques Loussier bought the property and converted it to a recording studio, with artists such as Sting and Pink Floyd recording there (much of The Wall was produced here). American Tom Bove bought the property in 1993 and re-established the vineyards with 30 hectares on the valley floor. The estate was bought by Brad Pit and Angelina Jolie in 2012 and they went into partnership with the Perrin family (of Château de Beaucastel fame) to produce the wine. The vineyards are farmed without pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers and all harvesting is by hand.
