Ironstone Vineyards
The roots of Ironstone lay back in 1948 when an ambitious young farmer called John Kautz spotted the potential of the Lodi area for grapes and planted his first 5 hectares. He eventually built up vineyard holdings of 2,000 hectares becoming one of the top 10 grape suppliers in California. In 1988, the family decided to make their own wine from some of the finest vineyard plots and so with Steve Miller as the winemaker, Kautz wines was founded. This metamorphosised into Ironstone and John has since been joined in the business by his four children. The old vine Zinfandel is a Lodi classic from a plot of 45 year old vines. Rich and very ripe, but not heavy, this is a classic varietal expression.
